The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting

<-BACK

My Promise, My Faith Award

Girl Scouting will now have our own national faith recognition, “My Promise My Faith.”  There is a pin available  for earning each year of Girl Scouts. Prior to its development, faith organizations, council staff, and volunteers were consulted as to the interest and viability of a faith pin and GSUSA received an overwhelmingly positive  response from all.  The faith organizations provided valuable guidance that ensures girls of all faiths can earn the pin and view it as a significant award. The My Promise My Faith recognition is designed for individuals, not as a group award; it is to recognize when a girl chooses to take a personal faith journey.

Journey Summit Awards

Another new award in the Girls’ Guides is the Journey Summit Award. Girls earn this award by completing all three journeys at their grade level. It will be placed just below the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards on a sash or vest to recognize the importance of the award. Note that this is now the highest award that a Girl Scout Daisy or Brownie can earn. A new song called “The Journey Summit Song” is included in the Girl’s Guide as a possible part of a celebration for girls who earn this award.

Mentoring Awards

THe Girl's Guides will also contain the new and revised awards for our teen mentors.  When girls guide people or teach them something they know, they’re acting as a mentor.

Girls in Girl Scout Cadettes can earn the Program Aide award by earning one LiA award, completing River Valleys’Program Aide Training, and working with younger  girls over six activity sessions.

Girl Scout Seniors can earn the Counselor in Training I award by completing River Valleys’ CIT Training and working with younger girls over the course of a camp session.

Girl Scout Ambassadors who have earned the CIT I award can earn the CIT II award by working with girls at camp in a specific skill area.

The Volunteer In Training award is for girls who have completed 9th grade or older who’d like to mentor a Girl Scout Daisy, Brownie, Junior or Cadette group outside the camp experience. River Valleys has not yet designed a VIT Training; this will be looked at over the coming year.

As a side note, the Junior Aide award will be available for Girl Scout Juniors who guide Girl Scout Daisies or Brownies on one of their Journeys. No formal council training is required as part of earning this award.
